Hey friends!
I know last week in my newsletter I talked about grief and how I've I have been working on feeling my feelings lately. After I wrote that newsletter I was inspired to come up with a short guide to help you do the same.
It is a colorful 5 page guide to walk you through noticing, identifying, and processing your feelings. As someone who historically intellectualized my feelings or felt like I was going to explode when I was angry or upset, I have been utilizing these skills. One of the things the guide teaches you is how to use a specific breathing technique to feel the feeling and then breathe through it as you work on sitting with the feeling and eventually letting it go. How to actually feel your feelings

If you want a sample of what the guide is like I can walk you through an example from my own life.
First, I identify sensations in my body like heart racing, throat tightness, and feeling frantic or disembodied. Then I work on identifying the emotions. As I talked about last week I have had sadness and overwhelm come up recently which I have been practicing sitting with. I'm going to be out of town at the end of the month and I've had some anxiety coming up around planning, and packing, and such. Then I work on using a breath exercise to release the emotions slowly but surely.
I think this practice is particularly helpful for folks who struggle with anxiety, perfectionism, overthinking, and who like to live in their head. If you're used to living in your head you might be resistant to allowing yourself to feel your emotions because they often seem so big and overwhelming when they do come up. This guide can actually help you learn how to feel the feelings and teach you how to convince your body that you are safe while doing so. That should make it even easier for the future.
